Red Alert: Fake Cloudflare verification code steals crypto, passwords

A new scam is targeting everyday web users, crypto traders, and researchers. And it skips standard wallet prompts completely.

Instead of asking you to approve a transaction, scammers are using fake Cloudflare “Verify You Are Human” screens to trick you into copying and running malicious commands directly on your computer!

How the Scam Works:

  1. The Trap: You click a link (often found in search results, social posts, or metadata) expecting a normal webpage.
  2. The Fake Security Check: A page pops up looking identical to a routine Cloudflare verification screen.
  3. The Trick: The page tells you to copy a command or script into your terminal/command prompt to “pass” the security check.
  4. The Damage: Running this script gives scammers administrator-level access to your PC, allowing them to instantly drain crypto wallets, harvest stored passwords, and steal personal files.

One trader already reported losing $600,000 in minutes from this exact trick.

Red Flags to Watch For:

  • Never run terminal/command prompt scripts to access a site. Real security checks like Cloudflare, Captcha, or reCAPTCHA will NEVER ask you to paste code or run scripts on your computer.
  • Prompts asking for administrator rights or opening Command Prompt / PowerShell on Windows.

How to Protect Your Data:

  • Close the page immediately. If a site asks you to copy-paste code to verify humanity, exit the tab instantly.
  • Do not copy-paste untrusted commands. Treat your command prompt like your master key—never give unknown code access to your system.
  • Run a full anti-malware scan if you accidentally executed a prompt on a suspicious verification page.

Stay sharp, don’t paste unknown scripts, and keep your data locked down!
